Why wet/damp lease an aircraft ?

Business Development

For those customers who are examining the introduction of a particular aircraft type into their fleet, we can offer a product that combines the traditional ACMI lease, the traditional third party ancillary support services and the operating lease.

We work closely together with the Lessee to ensure that their personnel obtain applicable type ratings on the aircraft. Lessee personnel will gradually be introduced to operate the aircraft. After a limited time the Lessee will be in a position to operate the aircraft on a dry lease basis while on-going maintenance support can be given if required.

The advantages of a development lease are :

  • Introduction to service time elimination
  • Introduction to service cost elimination
  • Opportunity to test a particular aircraft type before a long-term commitment is made (purchase / dry lease)
  • Opportunity to develop / test routes without making a long-term aircraft commitment
  • Training of crews and engineers / experience of type before a dry or purchase decision is made
  • All training / experience is gained while the aircraft is in revenue service, i.e. no sunk costs of aircraft introduction
  • Instant aircraft availability and flexible period commitments
  • Specialized maintenance support during and after the introduction of an aircraft type

Revenue leasing

Market demand usually fluctuates throughout the year, but the fixed costs to operate an aircraft often remain stable (monthly lease rate and maintenance reserves, organizational and personnel costs). Due to a temporary mismatch of cost and revenue airlines have to adapt their pricing policy to correct this problem.

We offer a similar solution with less risk through correction of the costs of an airline. When your market demand increases during a certain period of the year, we offer you an aircraft on a wet- or damp lease to permit you to generate extra revenue without having the burden of the fixed costs of an extra aircraft when demand is lower. This very same solution will also increase the average utilization of your dry leased and/or purchased aircraft. You can also turn this into a strategic partnership by wet leasing an aircraft for several years to cover a repetitive temporary increase of demand.

Advantages of a short term ACMI lease :

  • Better match of capacity and market demand
  • Extra revenue when demand increases
  • Higher average utilization of your fleet
  • A stable long-term solution to cover extra demand at a lower cost
  • No fixed costs when demand is slow
